Idea #68 3 years to retirement

Do it When your employees have to think about themselves. From time to time it is necessary that we all make this exercise. You are going to get retired. Be relaxed, it will not happen this year, but in 3 years. So, you will have a lot of time to make some changes. Imagine that during that ceremony 3 persons will talk about you. The first one will be your boss. Write down what will be his/her 5 sentences about you. The second person will be your colleague, someone that is at the same level of hierarchy in the company with you. Write down what will be his/her 5 sentences about you. The third person will be your subordinate. If you have no one that is at lower level of hierarchy than you, imagine that you have someone that is just 3 months in your company. Write down what will be his/her 5 sentences about you. When all employees finish with this task, ask them to grade their satisfaction on the scale from 1 to 10 when the 10 is maximum. Ask them to write down one action for each from those 3 people that will move their level of satisfaction for one grade. Tell them to make a plan for implementing those actions.

Now coaching questions for you:
1. In which areas of your life would you find useful to implement a similar game?
2. Who would be a more appropriate person to talk about you instead of your boss, your colleague and your subordinate?
3. Why is her/his opinion of you important to you?
Thank you for sharing your ideas!

Idea #64 Learn to smile with eyes

Do it during training of non verbal communication When you want to give them something special. We all know that today from an employee is expected to smile. But it is not easy! We all know to smile but our eyes are telling the truth. If you are not happy, you can’t smile from the heart. As the Chinese proverb says: “If you don’t know how to smile, don’t play the game of selling”. So, obviously we have to learn how to smile.

Ask all participants to put hands firmly on their mouths. Now, they have to face each other and each of them to show to his/her partner that he/she is happy. Obviously the only way is to show it by his/her eyes. Now, when they get the idea, just continue with a practice. Next time they will have a new learned behavior.  Now, when you see a customer without a smile, give him one of yours.
!#64 smile with your eyes

Now, questions you have to think about:
1. What makes you smile?
2. How do you feel when you smile?
3. What is the connection between your smile and your feelings?
4. Have you ever tried to change your emotions by smiling?
5. How could you benefit from that skill?
Thank you for your ideas

Idea #61 Day in a week without cell phone

Do it When you want to make a better relationship. This idea is closely connected to your private life. Since every businessman has a strong urge to balance his private and business life, this idea would affect your business life. The idea is to turn off your cell phone once in a week. Let’s say it would be Sunday. Make an agreement with your partner to turn off cell phones for whole Sunday. Can you survive it? If you can succeed in it, I would like to congratulate you.  This little idea could affect your business life and improve your relationship with your partner. And when you improve your relationship…, anything is possible. :)  Remember, what  your Bikram Choudhury said:  “Never too old, never too bad, never too late, never too sick to start from scratch once again.”

Now, coaching questions for you:
1. Just imagine your perfect relationship with your partner. What does it look like?
2. How do you describe this relationship in one sentence?
3. What would be the time frame for this goal?
4. Why is this goal important to you?
5. Who would you be when you reach that goal?
6. Why is that so important to you?
7. How close are you to your goal?
8. What steps do you need to do according to your time frame
?
9. What else do you think your partner expects from you to do to benefit from it?
10. How are you going to commit yourself to stick to your plan?
Thank you for your ideas

Idea #58 Be a 10 minute Observer

Do it When you want to make a change in your company. Everyone in the group still sitting in their chairs has to mentally leave the group and take some of the corners of the room. Now, looking from that position to the group he/she has to imagine a business scenario for the next year. What changes in the team have to be made? What would be the most effective thing that each of us has to make? Write down everything and discuss in the end. Do it now, because: “A year from now you will wish you had started today.” – Karen Lamb

Now, coaching questions for you:
1. Imagine the next business year on your market! What changes do you see?
2. How those changes are affecting your business?
3. What are advantages of those changes?
4. What are the bad things in those changes?
5. What else is even more important to your right now?
6. How important to you is to make necessary changes?
7. Who else will benefit from those changes?
8. Make a list of all actions that you have to make so you will be prepared for the change?
9. Now, think about actions that other industries will make. Which of them are applicable in your company?
10. Now, when you have a list of action steps that you will make, how are you going to commit yourself to them?
Thank you for your ideas

Idea #52 Measure your skills to reach Flow

Do it When you set goals with your employee. We have discussed about Flow during Tesla Idea #47. Now, just ask your employee to measure his present skills. Next he has to measure his necessary skills in next period (3 months, 6 months, 1 year…) concerning that he will be still in the state of Flow. Now use coaching wheel. Your employee will have to make necessary action steps constantly having improvement on coaching wheel. Then your employee just has to make that action. As great Benjamin Franklin said: “Well done is better than well said.” Having in mind an Italian proverb: “Between saying and doing many pair of shoes are worn out.”

Now, coaching questions for you:
1. Imagine that you are in 6 months from now. You are still in a state of Flow. Just say on coaching wheel measuring level of necessary skills where would you be?
2. Now, for each skill make necessary action steps.
3. When would you do each action step?
4. How beneficial for you will be making system that will help you in measuring each skill?
5. How will that system look like?
6. Where else would you use that system?
7. Who else will benefit form that system?
8. How are you going to commit yourself to stay in flow during next 6 months?
 Thank you for your time.

Idea #43 Last page Creative Ideas

Do it When you want to gain creative ideas. As great Albert Einstein said: “We can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.” Implementing coaching we are changing the way we are thinking and on the top of that we are changing the way we are writing our ideas. Whenever you have some ideas write it in notebook but start from the last page. Since our school days we have learned that all answers are written on the last pages. If you write idea #001 on the last page, you will have a plenty of pages and numbers to use but arranged in reverse order.
When you implement idea just circle it. My creative book is on this picture.

Now, coaching questions for you:
1. Imagine a problem that you can’t solve with present way of thinking. What is it?
2. How important for you is to solve that problem?
3. What would you be with that problem solved?
4. Imagine the person that might have solution to that problem. Who is he?
5. That person gives you the book with all answers. Tell me when you get that picture.
6. I want you to take that book and turn the last page.
7. Tell me what is written as answer?
Thank you for your answer.

Idea #37 Emotion Vs. Logic

Do it when you want to train decision making. Often we say that while making decisions is good to exclude emotions, using only our logic. At the same time, there are so many emotional decision making techniques. Even with what we believe are rational decisions, the very point of choice is always based on emotion. It is much easier to understand if we say that emotions are signals from the subconscious mind. Now, we can start game. Divide participants in 2 groups. First group has to prepare presentation of one of your products using only logic. Presentation has to include poster and sales speech. Other group has to do the same thing using only logic.
Give them 15 minutes for preparation. Then they will do the presentations.
Objections and questions from the other group are the most important part.
Answering them each group can use bith, emotion and logic.

Coaching questions for you:
1. Imagine that your career is guided just by your intuition and that you can fail. How confident will you be on a scale from 1 to 10?
2. Beside confidence, what other your values will benefit?
3. How your life looks then? Explain it in 3 sentences?
4. What is stopping you from reaching that goal?
5. What can you do to raise your present level of confidence?
6. What further steps can you make?
7. How can you make system for constantly boosting your confidence?
8. How committed you are to implement that system?
9. When are you going to start with your system?
Thank you, I can feel your confidence right now!

Idea #36 Compare your present & dream 24 hours

Do it when you have to organize your day. Some people believe that they are delivering Time Management training. I don’t think that is possible. You can only manage your actions, not time. I am not playing with word. When you realize difference you are on the right way. So I am asking you to fulfill two identical circles. One with actions that you are doing right now during 24 hours period. Then do the other which is called your dream 24 hours. Then compare the difference. All you have to do is to make action plan how are you going to manage the difference. And that is managing actions in time. Take time and do this. Remember what Seneca said: “If not us, who, if not now, when?”
Now, more coaching questions for you:
1. Looking at your dream 24 hours, tell me what kind of person would you be with that kind of organizing your actions?
2. Who else will benefit from that?
3. How satisfied will you be on a scale from 1 to 10?
4. What will you be able to do to have that kind of life?
5. What will be the time frame for succeeding your goal?
6. What will be the best start for making that change?
7. Write down all actions that will help you reaching your goal.
8. Where are you going to put that action plan and 2 circles so you can see your progres?
When you succeed send us your circles, and we are going to post them on comments  :)

Idea #35 You in 5

Do it when you have to explain the importance of change. Give a flip chart paper to participants.  Their task is to draw. First, in lower left part they have to draw them in present time. Their faces are toward center of the paper. Then in upper right part of the paper, they have to draw themselves in 5 years. Again faces turned to the center of the paper. Now they have to connect those 2 pictures. They can choose type of the line. It can be straight or more in the waving mood. But it has to start from left lower corner and finish at upper right corner. Now they have to draw and explain critical moments in those 5 years. What they predict has happened and how they have overcome it.
Crucial is that suddenly they will come to the idea that they have to change themselves.
At this moment mankind posses only 5% of the knowledge that it will have in 2060.
So we have to invent and to learn 95% of it.  Now, coaching questions for you:
1. Imagine yourself going in year 2060 and taking that knowledge. Remember now you have only 5% of it. Who would you be in your business?
2. In which area of your business would you make the biggest change?
3. What type of changes it will make in that area?
4. What will be your first step in implementation?
5. Having that knowledge, make a list of all steps that you will make.
6. What from that list could be made in next 1 year?
7. Choose and make an action plan for achieving it?
The amazing thing about life is that you choose how you react to things that affect you. With coaching we can go into future and anticipate our reactions.
Happiness is a choice. Make it.

Idea #34 Action plan at The End

Do it when you have finished your training. It is always good to see how participants have accepted training and what are they going to implement. On one page of handout give them matrix 2 x 2. In 4 quadrants give them headlines:  I will do More, I will do Less, I will Stop and I will Start. On every quadrant make at least 3 lines so they can fulfill them. At the end of that page make a space so participants can sign. This is very good commitment that they will really follow their action plan.
And remember that We Can Not Change our Past but We Can Change the Future.
Now, coaching questions for you:
1. Find area in your life where you want to make improvement. Which area is that?
2. How important on a scale from 1 to 10 is it to you?
3. Whom will you be when you make that improvement?
4. To make that improvement you will have to start doing something differently. Name 3 things!
5. You will have to stop doing something. Name 3 things!
6. You will have to do something more than you are doing now? Name 3 things!
7. You will have to do something less than now! Name 3 things!
8. Now you have 12 things that you will do. What will be the first thing?
9. Make prioritization for other eleven.
10. How satisfied are you with this plan?
Thank you and good luck!
